We Are Pink Initiative

We are in the business of love.

This isn’t an old school bake sale.

We want to make a difference, and we are.

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, the statistics tell us. That’s how many college roommates I had, how many women are in my book club and how many bridesmaids some brides have in her wedding party. It’s rare to meet someone who hasn’t yet somehow been touched by breast cancer- either directly or a family member, a friend, a colleague, isn’t it? So what are we going to do about it? Something! Because even a little something is better than nothing at all. And we’re going to have a grand time doing it because that’s what we party professionals do best.

Pink Initiative is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 2008 in the memory of my mom’s best friend, Donna, who passed away from breast cancer in 1991. Her upbeat attitude and silly antics are our rocket fuel.

Each year, the funds raised here (both from monetary donations and fundraising events) are distributed annually, minus actual costs of keeping this effort going (legal and bank fees, website hosting and bare bones marketing needs like a banner or two to hoist at events). No one takes a salary; we do this because our hearts tell us so.

Here’s who we’ve helped:

2009: National Breast Cancer Foundation
2010: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute mobile mammography van day
2011: Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation
2012: granted Stage 4 breast cancer patient and her family trip to Disney World
2013: Maine Breast Cancer Coalition
2014: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute mobile mammography van day
2015: Young Survival Coalition

Pink Initiative has closed its doors. Thank you ALL for your love and support over the years.
